Postnatal Pilates
Post-natal Pilates
Every delivery is different. Whether it natural or c-section, first, second or third child your body will recover differently after each and every birth.
There are now new demands on your body: reduced sleep, constant alert, picking up, carrying, lifting, pushing, feeding… your body and mind have to cope with all of these and at the same time, heal from the delivery.
Hormonal changes are still occurring whether you are breastfeeding or not and coping with everything can be overwhelming.
Here are some of the conditions that can occur during birth which can make recovery more difficult:
- Episiotomy
- tearing
- c-section
- pelvic floor weakness
- diastasis
It is important for you to listen to your body and not push yourself back to exercise too soon and too hard as it may do more harm than good.
Having a clinical Pilates instructor is particularly helpful as we can conduct a physical assessment checking for strength, diastasis and mobility before starting you strengthening program. Therefore, your exercises are bespoke and progress as you get stronger.
Getting you back to a healthy a strong state has to be tailored to your individual needs.
