Pregnancy Pilates in Oxford

You want to keep mobile or active during your pregnancy but not sure what you can or cannot do?

Pilates is safe and great way to get you moving and keep fit throughout your pregnancy. Eglantine’s osteopathic background gives her additional knowledge on how to accompany women throughout their pregnancy.

During pregnancy the woman’s body changes considerably inside and out. Hormonal changes affect your ligaments, muscles and circulation and the weight change will affect your centre of gravity. The Pilates classes will adapt to these changes but also to the different phases of the pregnancy.

During the first trimester, although you are not showing much you are feeling a lot! it is recommended to stay at your current level or even shift to a lighter load to not push your body. It is a good time to go back to basics and really practice breathing and stabilisation. It is key to listen to your body and communicate with your instructor.

For the second trimester, you may feel your energy come back but now the body starts to visibly change. It is the time to make adjustments and modifications to your workout. I will make sure to avoid certain positions and exercises during this stage and adapt to your abilities.

In the third trimester fatigue comes back! Your stance will be wider to accommodate the growing belly but also your breast will grow and your upper back will start to compensate. Finally, the preparation for birth, the pelvis widens the baby is engaged and It is the time to focus on breath and relaxation.
