Osteopathy is a health care profession: it provides diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The aim of the osteopath is to look at the patient as a whole, understand the medical history, current circumstances and to prevent injuries to reoccur. People of all ages can benefit: new born, teenagers, pregnant women and seniors.
During a consultation, the osteopath will start by taking a thorough case history, do a physical assessment which consists of asking the patient to do certain movements and carrying out orthopaedic tests and finally treat using different modalities such as soft tissue, trigger point, stretching, mobilising, adjusting and myofascial release.
As well as providing relief for pain, osteopathy also is a means to prevent further injuries by keeping the body in check. The osteopath works with the patient to fulfil whatever goal they may have: where it being injury rehab, posture correction, pregnancy support, postnatal recovery or improve general mobility.
