Postnatal Osteopathic Treatment in Oxford
Every mother has been through a completely unique journey from pregnancy to post natal and understanding that is key to offer the best care. Your osteopathic treatment takes into account your mental and physical state and we listen to you and your body
New mothers have to go through a lot physically and mentally. The body has gone through many changes during 9 months of pregnancy and then generated incredible effort for the delivery of the baby or is now having to heal after a c-section. During this 4th trimester, mothers have to provide and care for their newborn whilst re- adjusting to their new hormonal and physical state. Alongside broken sleep, they have to feed, lift, carry, push the buggy as well as allow their body to recover.
The post-natal abdominal and pelvic floor weakness as well as repetitive feeding positions can cause sustained poor posture putting a strain on neck and shoulders. It can also create knee pain as the hips are no longer holding the load properly. The repetitive feeding, lifting and carrying can lead to RSIs and De Quervain’s tenosynovitis also known as mum’s thumb.
This puts a lot of strain on the postpartum body and osteopathy plays an important role to support the new mother by:
- relieving aches and pains from the new repetitive daily activities.
- Releasing C-section scar tension
- relaxing and energising the exhausted body and mind of the new mother.
- Rebalancing the body and releasing tensions in the tissues.
- Guiding and advising with posture and strengthening exercises.
- Eglantine’s Pilates training provides a more specialised care in certain post-natal conditions such as diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness, incontinence and pelvic girdle pain.
